Text: Our Relationship To God

We Value The Sufficiency of Scripture

  • We stand unashamedly on the truth that the Bible, in its entirety, is God's infallible Word, the only rule of faith and practice. The Bible makes no mistakes. The original autographs (i.e. the first copies) were without error. The Bible says of itself, "the law of the Lord is perfect" (Psalm 19:7). The Bible is flawless because it was authored (inspired) by a flawless God (II Tim. 3:16-17). The Bible is not only infallible in its totality, it is inerrant in all its parts, whether historical, poetical, doctrinal, or prophetical. The Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy states: "Infallible signifies the quality of neither misleading nor being misled and so safeguards in categorical terms the truth that Holy Scripture is a sure, safe, and reliable rule and guide in all matters." Similarly, inerrant signifies the quality of being free from all falsehood or mistake and so safeguards the truth that the Holy Scripture is entirely true and trustworthy in all its assertions.

  • The Bible is our light (Psalm 119:105), our food (I Peter 2:2, Hebrews 5:11-14), our medicine (Psalm 19:7, Psalm 119:93), our sword for spiritual battle (Ephesians 6:17), and the implanted seed which is able to save ( James 1:21, I Peter 1:23). In short, the Bible is all we need. The Reformers stood unashamedly on the truth of "Sola Scriptura" and we affirm that the Bible is our sole source of authority being God's revelation.

We Value The Church

  • We believe that the Church is the living spiritual body of which Christ is the Head and of which all regenerate people are members (I Corinthians 12:13, Matthew 28:19-20, Ephesians 5:23-24). We believe that the local church is made up of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized by immersion on a credible confession of faith and associated for worship, instruction, fellowship, and evangelism (Acts 2:41-42). We believe that Christ has given the church two ordinances for perpetual observance, namely baptism and the Lord's supper (I Corinthians 11:23-26, Romans 6:4-5). We believe that the church must consistently and vigorously practice Biblical church discipline in obedience to Christ's command for the vital testimony of the church and for the purity and peace of the church to be maintained. This is to be done always in love with the express purpose of restoring the sinning saint back to full fellowship with God through repentance and confession (Matthew 18:15-16).

We Value Worship

  • We believe that the humble, heartfelt worship of our Creator is indispensable to the functioning of the local church (Psalm 122:1, John 4:23-24). Worship reminds us of our total dependence on the Savior and our depravity without His saving grace (Romans 3:23, Jeremiah 17:9, Matthew 15:19, Ephesians 2:5, Ephesians 2:8-9, Philippians 3:3). In worship, we are moved to thanksgiving, and greater commitment to and enjoyment of the only true God (Psalm 27:6, Psalm 37:4, Psalm 16:11, Ephesians 5:19-20, Colossians 3:16). We each worship individually in our daily walks as we believe God would be honored (I Thessalonians 5:16-18, Psalm 119:164). We worship corporately as a church family in many ways, but primarily through our participation in prayer, preaching of the Word, vocal and instrumental music, drama, and our offerings, whereby we return a portion of our supply to the Father who gave it (James 5:13, James 1:17, Nehemiah 8:6, I Timothy 2:8, II Corinthians 9:7, I Chronicles 15:16).

We Value Prayer

  • We believe that prayer is a necessary part in the life of a fully-functioning follower of Christ (I Thessalonians 5:17-18). In prayer such a follower of Christ:
    • Obeys the command of Christ to pray
    • (Matthew 6:5-13, I Thessalonians 5:17-18);
    • Worships God and returns thanks (Matthew 6:9, Colossians 4:2);
    • Confesses sin (Romans 10:10-11);
    • Grows in his relationship with Christ (James 4:1-10);
    • Intercedes on the behalf of others (I Timothy 2:1-4, Philippians 4:6);
    • Accomplishes the work of Christ (Philippians 1:18-26).

We Value Biblical Stewardship

  • We believe that stewardship is worship. It is recognition of God as Creator and Owner. As stewards of our time, treasure, talents, testimony, temple, truth, and trust, we consistently return a portion of God's blessings back to Him (I Corinthians 16:1-2, II Corinthians 8:12). Christian stewardship also includes cheerful and sacrificial giving (II Corinthians 9:7, Mark 12:43-44, II Corinthians 8:2-3). Christians live their lives with hearts open to God and acknowledge that we are stewards of God's possessions given to us in trust. Being a good steward of God's possessions is a reminder to us of the intent of our heart and the place of importance Jesus has in our lives. Stewardship is not to meet God's need, but is intended for the believer to worship God and keep Him in His rightful place in our lives. Christians should also always be willing to give 100% of that which they steward at any time required by the Lord (Matthew 19:21). Indeed, they should even be willing to offer their very "bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God" (Romans 12:1).

We Value Christian Fellowship

  • We believe that God has created us purposefully as social beings (Genesis 2:18) and has redeemed us as His bride (the Church) (Titus 2:11-14, Ephesians 5:25-27). As such, we know that our bond with one another:
    • Is grounded in Christ's atoning work on the cross (Ephesians 2:4-7);
    • Demonstrates our bond with our heavenly Father (I John 4:7);
    • Negates any stratification based upon ethnic background, race, gender or social status (Galatians 3:27-29);
    • Is for the use of everyone's God-given gift(s) (I Corinthians 12:1-31) to care for one another (I Corinthians 12:24-26) in the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:11-16);
    • Is for the encouragement of another to faith, love and good works (Hebrews 3:12-14; Hebrews 10:24-25); and ultimately,
    • Is for God's glory (Ephesians 3:20-21, I Corinthians 10:31). This is the fellowship that was practiced by the early church described in the book of Acts.

We Value Family & The Sacredness of Marriage

  • We believe that God ordained the family as the basic unit of relationship from the foundation of the world (Genesis 3). We believe a family, according to the Biblical pattern, consists of a man, a woman, and if God wills it, children. We believe He uses the family unit to spread His kingdom on earth. We further believe that God regards all equally but has ordained the man as head of the home as Christ is the head of the church, woman as helpmate, and children subject to their parents. We believe in the sacredness of marriage. Our Lord confirmed this by His presence and first miracle at the wedding at Cana (John 2).

We Value Discipleship

  • We believe that God is most glorified when Christians are growing in the Lord as fully-functioning followers of Christ (Matthew 28:16-20). It is our intention to aid the Christian to this end. The fully-functioning follower of Christ is a person who:
    • Has a solid and growing understanding of the Bible and uses it as the only rule of faith and practice for their lives (John 8:31-32, II Timothy 3:16-17);
    • Is committed to regular private and family times of prayer and Bible study (John 15:7-8, Psalm 119:9-16, Deuteronomy 11:18-21);
    • Daily commits him/herself to putting the Savior first in their life and lives to glorify Him (Luke 9:23-25, Luke 14:25-33);
    • Joins him/herself to and actively participates in a local church, exercising the use of their gifts for the ministry (Hebrews 10:25, John 13:33-35, John 15:7-17, Acts 2:42-47, I Corinthians 12:1-26, Ephesians 4:11-13).
    • Actively seeks to build relationships with others and share the gospel with the lost (Matthew 9:35-38, Matthew 28:19-20); and,
    • Is a generous, joyful financial supporter of the local church for the ministry of the gospel (II Corinthians 8:1-24).

We Value Missions, Evangelism & Outreach

  • We believe that having embraced Jesus Christ by faith, we are to make the Lord Jesus Christ known by the preaching of the gospel to all nations (Matthew 9:35-38, Matthew 28:18-20, John 15:16, Acts 1:8; 10:42-43, I Corinthians 9:16, II Corinthians 5:14-20). It is the duty of every child of God to:
    • Seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by verbal witness complemented always by a Christian life-style;
    • Support both local and global missions by their finances and prayers;
    • Exercise other methods to reach the lost in harmony with the gospel of Christ (Luke 24:46-48, John 4:35-37; 15:8, John 16, John 27, Acts 5:20; 22:15, Romans 10:13-15, Ephesians 3:8-10, II Timothy 4:5, I Peter 2:9).
